Stockton Bukkyo Taiko is an affiliate organization of the Buddhist Church of Stockton, in Stockton, California. The group was founded in 1990 by Reverend David Matsumoto to help practice Buddhist teachings in a fun manner. Although some taiko players are church members, the public is welcome to join the group. We have classes for both recreational and performing group members.
Our performing group plays at many cultural and community events. We have performed at a variety of festivals, fundraisers, and celebrations in addition to providing taiko drumming in support of the Stockton Buddhist Temple. Contact us to inquire about our schedule and if it is possible for us to play at your event.
At Stockton Bukkyo Taiko, our mission is to blend the art of taiko drumming with Buddhist teachings. We aim to create a welcoming environment for everyone, regardless of their background or experience level.
Check out this great video highlighting our history and performances.
If you are interested in taking taiko lessons with us, we invite you to attend a free introductory class that is offered each year in September. Contact Us via Email for more information and to reserve your spot in the class.
Practices are held in the gym at the Stockton Buddhist Temple
2820 Shimizu Drive, Stockton CA 95203
Some of our members of Stockton Bukkyo Taiko made taiko drums and they have created a website and video about the process. Check out the maketaikodrums.com website or watch the YouTube Video for more information.
